We are seeking a dedicated and experienced General Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of Cooperative Coffee Roasters’ flagship coffee shop, which is scheduled to open in May 2024.  

Our coffee company’s mission is to make exceptional coffee approachable. At Cooperative’s new shop, we want all customers to feel welcomed with genuine warmth and kindness, so they can experience the gift of this moment: the moment they get to meet the coffee we have carefully selected, imported from all around the world, roasted and brewed for them to enjoy. This coffee shop’s proximity to our roastery and existing brand will naturally evoke people’s curiosity. Also, the people who live in the West Asheville neighborhoods surrounding our building are eager to make our shop a regular third place in their lives. We are looking for someone to join our team who will be excited to facilitate everyday connections with people grounded in gratitude and wonder.

This could be the job for you! As the General Manager, you will play a pivotal role in upholding our company culture while ensuring the smooth functioning of the coffee shop.


  1. Staff Management:

   - Directly manage the barista team, fostering a culture of elevated coffee quality, authentic kindness, approachability of the brand, and excellence in customer service.

   - Provide guidance, training, and support to staff members, encouraging their personal and professional growth.

   - Create and maintain a positive and inclusive work environment where team members feel valued and motivated in their roles.

  1. Coffee Program Management:

   - Oversee the coffee program with a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and consistency.

   - Ensure that the coffee offerings align with Cooperative Coffee Roasters' values and meet the expectations of our customers and existing fans of the company.

   - Collaborate with the team to develop innovative seasonal and rotating menu items and promotions that reflect our commitment to excellence.

  1. Inventory Management:

   - Manage inventory levels effectively to ensure seamless operations and minimize waste.

   - Implement efficient inventory tracking systems and standard operating procedures to streamline the ordering process and optimize inventory turnover.

  1. Administrative Duties:

   - Handle administrative tasks with diligence and attention to detail, maintaining accurate records and adhering to established protocols.

   - Manage payroll processing, budgeting, and expense tracking with a focus on efficiency and transparency.

   - Communicate effectively with business owners and the coffee/production departments. 

Preferred Skills: 

- Proven experience in a fast-paced coffee shop OR other food & beverage environment. 

- Strong understanding of coffee brewing techniques and a passion for delivering exceptional service.

- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.

- Strong organizational abilities and a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency.

- Willingness to work weekends and holidays.

- Physical capability to operate behind a bar for 6 hours and lift 30 lbs.

- Prior experience in inventory management and/or administrative roles.

Compensation / Benefits:

- This position offers a competitive base pay salary range of $36,000 to $40,000 per year.

- In addition to the base pay, the General Manager will collect tips for shifts worked behind the coffee bar.

- Benefits include 3 weeks of paid time off. 

Working Hours:

This is a salaried position with approximately 32 hours per week of work. We envision this work constituting 15-20 hours per week spent behind the bar and an additional 15-20 hours per week dedicated to administrative tasks.
